National EITC Awareness Day is Friday, January 25 – presentation will discuss tax credits to create potentially larger refunds

Friday, January 25th is National EITC Awareness Day, designed to spread knowledge of the Earned Income Tax Credit across the country.

NatlEITCdayJan25The credit helps individuals and families at designated income thresholds keep more of their own money and potentially receive larger refunds when they file their income taxes. Larger tax refunds can result in decreased reliance on social services and benefits our local economy.

United Way and the Earned Income Tax Credit Alliance want you to know about a presentation at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Memphis Branch on National EITC Awareness Day that will focus on using tax credits to increase the potential for a larger return.

“The Great American Treasure Hunt: Finding and Using Tax Credits To Maximize Your Return” will take place Friday, January 25 from  9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Memphis Branch, 200 North Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103.

Outreach training sessions will provide guided tours of tax credits that may result in higher income tax refunds. Participants do not need prior knowledge of tax preparation.

The event is free, however, registration is required by Monday, January 21 due to limited space. Lunch will be provided.
